What is a Community Foundation
In recent years, community foundations have become one of the fastest growing, most dynamic networks on the volunteer sector. There are community foundations in every corner of the world. From Australia to Zimbabwe, community foundations work to bring people who care about their communities together with the causes that can make a long term difference for the better.
Simply stated a community foundation works to build a better community.
A Community Foundation does three key things to build community:
- A CF works with donors to build endowment funds that will ensure a future for community projects and programmes
- A CF grants funds to the widest possible range of organizations and initiatives.
- A CF brings people together from all parts of the community to stimulate new ideas, build participation and strengthen community philanthropy.
While there are many organizations working for better communities, a few important factors make a Community Foundation special:
- A CF brings donors to the table as community builders, and helps them formulate and realize their philanthropic goals. A CF actively seeks to match their interests and concerns with community needs and organizations and assist them in having a lasting impact on the community.
- A CF takes the broadest view of what a community is and what it needs to succeed. CF grants can support the work of all charitable causes in the community.
- A CF strives to identify long-term needs and opportunities and invest in sustainable solutions.
The Sarnia Community Foundation is proud to be a part of the Community Foundations of Canada network and strives to meet the objectives of all CF's across the country and around the world. We are all for community.
