Even Small Donations Make a Difference
The Sarnia Community Foundation is a different kind of charity. We give to other charities based on what our donors tell us and through a carefully managed grants programme. The funds on these pages have been created by people just like you who envision a better future for their community. They have given a gift in perpetuity.
Perpetuity is a big fancy word. It means a gift keeps on giving forever. Because we are chartered as a foundation under the regulations of the Canada Revenue Agency, most of the gifts we are given must be held for a period of time before they can be spent. During that time the Foundation has the opportunity to invest and steward the funds making even the smallest of gifts grow over time.
Each year we take the income we are able to earn and return that income to the community through grants. We don't spend the original gift instead we reinvest it and the following year we are able to turn the money earned back to the community again. In fact we do that forever.
Every donation entrusted to us through our endowed funds is treated the same way, so whether the donation is small or large it will be used for good in your community forever. Over time even the smallest gift can make a difference.
