Scholarships
The Sarnia Community Foundation administers a number of scholarships on behalf of donors.
If you are a student considering post secondary education or a student already enrolled, one of these scholarships could be for you.

Ongoing Scholarships
Society of St Vincent de Paul / J&JY Trades Scholarship
Established: 2010
Please note that Scholarship applications can be dropped on Tuesday April 2nd before 4:00pm and still be eligible.
This scholarship supports students entering or continuing in a trades education. Deadline for applications is 4 pm March 31st each year. If the 31st is a weekend the next business day is acceptable. Please note our address is 109 Durand St.

Blue Eyes Big Heart Josh Alderton Memorial Scholarship
Established: 2013
Applications for the 2024 award are now being accepted. Please e mail the application to the SCF office by the deadline of MAY 24th, 2024
The Blue Eyes, Big Heart Scholarship was created in memory of a remarkable young man, Joshua Alderton, who tragically passed away in a car accident on July 25, 2013. Josh had a larger than life personality and a passion for volunteering. His charitable spirit truly knew no bounds and this scholarship is intended to help people who have been affected by domestic violence pursue their educational goals. Josh was dedicated to breaking the chain of violence in his own community and we believe that by helping women and children affected by domestic violence pursue higher education we can carry on his legacy. The first scholarship was awarded in 2014.

Susan Moffatt Memorial Scholarship
Established: 1997
The Susan Moffatt Scholarship was created with the goal of providing financial assistance to a graduating secondary school student who plans to further their education at the university or college level, with a primary focus on history, education or health science studies.
The recipient of this scholarship will have faced a personal physical or mental health challenge in their life and have prevailed despite that challenge.
To apply: Please write a letter addressed to the Scholarship committee and deliver it to the Community Foundation office by June 15th 2024 at 4 pm. PLEASE NOTE: Only those applications that come to the SCF office directly will be considered. The letter should be a a minimum of 500 words but no more than 1000. In the letter, you should describe your own physical or mental health challenge and how you have prevailed in life despite this challenge. Explain how this challenge has motivated you to pursue post-secondary studies with a focus on history , education or a health related curricula and describe your career goals which completion of a college of university degree programme in history, education or health sciences will enable you to pursue.

S & R Group Health Care Scholarship
Established: 2010
The S & R Health Care Scholarship is managed by SCF. It will assist individuals enrolled in the Health Sciences / Health Care programs at a post-secondary educational institution and who have a particular interest in caring for seniors.
Multiple scholarships are awarded annually.

Lambton Federation of Agriculture Fund for the Joyce Anderson Memorial Scholarship
Established: 2014
Available annually to a student in second or third year of post-secondary education. Must be a resident of Lambton County. A farm registration number is required. Deadline for applications is July 15th and awards being given in late August.

Joanne Klauke-LaBelle Memorial Scholarship
Established: 2015
Joanne Klauke-LaBelle (JKL) Memorial Scholarship was created in memory of a woman who devoted her life to the youth. She created an environment that was free of judgment and with a mission to create harmony in ourselves, each other, and the world we live in through the power of the arts – especially music. Joanne strongly believed in volunteering and more particularly, believed in “paying it forward”. She passionately tried every day to make a difference and asked that those around her did the same. Joanne created a legacy of love and music for youth in the communities of Sarnia and Lambton County. This scholarship is intended to help those individuals intending to pursue the performing arts or visual arts as a field of study.

Norma And Don Moore Scholarship
Established: 2017
The Norma and Don Moore Scholarship supports doctors or nurse practitioners enrolled in a programme leading to a license to practice in Ontario. Preference will be given to candidates who have indicated an intent to practice in Lambton County.

Zandbergs Scholarship Fund
Established: 2017
The Zandbergs Scholarship is intended to help those individuals intending to pursue a career in teaching and particularly those who have intend to teach in languages other than English.
Application deadline is May 15th of any calendar year.
The Founders of the scholarship gave many hours of instruction to members of the community in a wide variety of endeavors and believe in the power of education to lasting difference. The scholarship is open to donation so any member of the community who wishes to may donate to the fund and support the future of education.

Brian Fox Memorial Agriculture Scholarship
Established: 2018
The Ontario Sugarbeet Growers Association established the Brian Fox Memorial Agriculture Scholarship to honour the life and work of Brian Fox, a farmer, innovator, explorer and family man after his death in 2013.
The Scholarship is intended to encourage young people in the pursuit of education, innovation, exploration and enthusiasm in agriculture.
The application deadline is November 30th of any calendar year . If that day is during a weekend the deadline becomes the first business day following. Awards will be presented at the OSGA annual meeting in February or March.

Love All Justin Bourassa Memorial Fund
Established: 2022
The Love All Justin Bourassa Memorial Fund is an endowment fund managed by the Sarnia Community Foundation. The Bourassa Family established the fund to honour their son Justin and his contributions to tennis and the tennis community in Sarnia-Lambton. The fund’s primary goal is to provide financial assistance to develop youth tennis in Sarnia -Lambton. Funds will be disbursed in the form of scholarships.

University Women’s Scholarship
Established: 1936
Beginning in 1936 an organization of local women provided bursaries and scholarships to students pursuing their educational dream on an annual basis. After 85 years the club opted to dissolve and transferred the remaining assets to the Community Foundation. This created the University Women’s Club Scholarship which is built on the premise of women helping women.
The annual scholarship is given to an individual who, in the opinion of the scholarship committee, demonstrates a combination of academic potential, financial need and is able to demonstrate their intent to bring about change, with particular reference to women’s issues.
