This scholarship supports students entering or continuing in a trades education.
The Blue Eyes, Big Heart Scholarship was created in memory of a remarkable young man, Joshua Alderton, who tragically passed away in a car accident on July 25, 2013. Josh had a larger than life personality and a passion for volunteering. His charitable spirit truly knew no bounds and this scholarship is intended to help people who have been affected by domestic violence pursue their educational goals. Josh was dedicated to breaking the chain of violence in his own community and we believe that by helping women and children affected by domestic violence pursue higher education we can carry on his legacy. The first scholarship was awarded in 2014.
The Susan Moffatt Scholarship was created with the goal of providing financial assistance to a graduating secondary school student who plans to further their education at the university or college level, with a primary focus on history, education or health science studies.
The recipient of this scholarship will have faced a personal physical or mental health challenge in their life and have prevailed despite that challenge.
It will assist individuals enrolled in the Health Sciences / Health Care programs at a post-secondary educational institution and who have a particular interest in caring for seniors.
Available annually to a student in second or third year of post-secondary education. Must be a resident of Lambton County. A farm registration number is required.
Joanne Klauke-LaBelle (JKL) Memorial Scholarship was created in memory of a woman who devoted her life to the youth. She created an environment that was free of judgment and with a mission to create harmony in ourselves, each other, and the world we live in through the power of the arts – especially music. Joanne strongly believed in volunteering and more particularly, believed in “paying it forward”. She passionately tried every day to make a difference and asked that those around her did the same. Joanne created a legacy of love and music for youth in the communities of Sarnia and Lambton County. This scholarship is intended to help those individuals intending to pursue the performing arts or visual arts as a field of study.
The Norma and Don Moore Scholarship supports doctors or nurse practitioners enrolled in a programme leading to a license to practice in Ontario. Preference will be given to candidates who have indicated an intent to practice in Lambton County.
The Zandbergs Scholarship is intended to help those individuals intending to pursue a career in teaching and particularly those who have intend to teach in languages other than English.
The Ontario Sugarbeet Growers Association established the Brian Fox Memorial Agriculture Scholarship to honour the life and work of Brian Fox, a farmer, innovator, explorer and family man after his death in 2013.
The Scholarship is intended to encourage young people in the pursuit of education, innovation, exploration and enthusiasm in agriculture.
The Love All Justin Bourassa Memorial Fund is an endowment fund managed by the Sarnia Community Foundation. The Bourassa Family established the fund to honour their son Justin and his contributions to tennis and the tennis community in Sarnia-Lambton. The fund’s primary goal is to provide financial assistance to develop youth tennis in Sarnia -Lambton. Funds will be disbursed in the form of scholarships.
Beginning in 1936 an organization of local women provided bursaries and scholarships to students pursuing their educational dream on an annual basis. After 85 years the club opted to dissolve and transferred the remaining assets to the Community Foundation. This created the University Women’s Club Scholarship which is built on the premise of women helping women.
Lambton Kent District School Board scholarships facilitated by SCF
The annual scholarship will recognize and support five exceptional graduating students from Great Lakes secondary school who embody Anne’s spirit, energy and passion for making a positive change in our community. Each successful candidate shall receive $12,000 to enable them to pursue post secondary education at a school of their choice. The funds will be directed primarily towards tuition, books, and residence fees. Criteria for the scholarship will include academic excellence, commitment to community service, leadership, and financial need.
Anne was a positive energetic person known for her wisdom and compassion for others. She graduated from the University of Guelph with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and attended the Faculty of Law at Western University graduating after being named to the Dean’s Honours List. During her career as a lawyer in Sarnia, she became the first woman to hold the position of president of the Lambton Law Association. Later, she became the first lawyer from Lambton County to be elected to the executive board of the County and District Law Presidents Association where she served until being appointed a judge of the Ontario Court of Justice in October 1998. She retired from the bench in August 2022 and then continued to sit as a per diem judge primarily in the southwest judicial region of Ontario.
Anne enjoyed her interaction with the community through her volunteer work and her association with a Sarnia Road Runners where she was runner of the year in 1985. She was an avid reader and book club member. She also enjoyed acting in the plays performed by the Lambton Law Association that sponsored many local charities.
In honour of Kathleen Pretty, life-long learner, community advocate, and passionate chef, these awards will support students in the Culinary Management and Social Service Worker Programs at Lambton College.
The awards, currently in the amount of $1000 per Program, will be granted annually to Lambton College students who have:
Each year, at the conclusion of the academic year, the Program Coordinators for the Culinary Management and Social Service Worker Programs will forward the names and contact information of the successful graduates to the Sarnia Community Foundation.
Sarnia Community Foundation staff will distribute the awards directly to the students and advise Margaret Capes, Executor of the Estate of Kathleen Pretty, of the names of the successful graduates.
As per the request of the Executor, these awards will not be part of the annual Lambton College Awards ceremony.
The Sydney E. Vrolyk Memorial Scholarship is awarded in memory of former Sarnia-Lambton student Sydney Vrolyk by her family and her friends. Sydney, who was born with Down syndrome, attended St. Patrick’s High School for seven years. She participated in the PEOPEL program as well as the arts, coop and cooking and lunch buddies. Sydney fully embraced and loved her time at her secondary school and the staff and students loved her back.
This is a $5000 bursary to be used for tuition, books, residence fees etc. The applicant must be a graduating female student who has attended LCCVI for at least three years and is enrolling in a first year, full-time program at an accredited college or university. Winners of the Nicol Scholarship are not eligible. First preference given to applicants with an IPRC designation. The winner will be a broad minded, tolerant, compassionate, and resilient student in good academic standing who has participated in school activities and sports. The participation in athletics is not limited to high school teams but may include community teams and team management or refereeing activities. |
The completed application form should be returned to the guidance department by June 1st of the applicant’s graduating year. Applications will then be forwarded to the LCCVI Scholarships Selection Committee. This committee shall select no more than three (3) candidates from the submitted applications. These applications will be forwarded to the donor, Linda Smith, or her designates, who will make the final selection. The successful applicant will be contacted in writing and directed to forward proof of enrolment at a post-secondary program. A cheque from the Sarnia Community Foundation will then be issued to the recipient. |
